About FloorTone
FloorTone is a small independent publication about call-center and BPO audio quality — background noise, agent clarity, the caller's side of the line, and the tooling that has grown up around all three. We write for the people who own the queue: team leads, WFM planners, QA managers, BPO account teams, and the work-from-home agents living inside these policies.
Why this exists
Call audio sits in an accountability gap. IT owns the network, facilities owns the room, HR owns the remote-work policy, and the caller experiences all three at once — so noise becomes everyone's symptom and nobody's job. Meanwhile the vendor category around it (agent-side noise cancellation, voice isolation, accent-clarity tooling) matured fast and prices itself per seat, which means someone in operations has to evaluate it with real rigor. We built the site we wished existed when that evaluation landed on our desk: verified prices with dates attached, deployment realities stated plainly, and measurement schemes you can run without buying anything first.
How we work
- Team bylines. Everything here is written and edited by the FloorTone desk. We don't invent named personas with stock-photo faces, and we won't pretend a byline is a credential.
- Dated verification. Vendor facts — prices, plan limits, feature lists — are checked against the vendor's live site, and the check date is printed next to the claim. If we couldn't verify something on the live web, we tell you that instead of asserting it.
- Computed numbers. When a page shows arithmetic (like our noise-cost model), the calculation ships as a script in this site's repository and the page shows its verbatim output. No hand-massaged tables.
- Stated limits. We cover software, settings and operational policy. We don't review hardware, we don't publish fabricated "lab tests," and we don't do medical, legal or HR advice — where a topic touches those (consent around voice processing, for instance), we flag the questions and tell you to bring your own counsel.
- Disclosed money. Some outbound links are affiliate links, individually disclosed where they appear. Our independence move is structural: the first recommendation in our cornerstone guide — baseline your platform's built-in suppression — pays us nothing.
What to read first
Start with call center noise cancellation: the ops guide — every other page on the site reports to it. If you manage remote agents, the WFH audio standard with its copyable household-noise policy is the most immediately useful thing we've published. And if you'd rather ease in, The Wrap-Up is the blog: shorter, looser, still honest.
Corrections
If we've printed something stale — a price that moved, a plan that changed shape — we want to know and we'll fix it with a visible update. Vendor terms drift constantly; the verification dates on each page tell you exactly how fresh our snapshot is, and our site policies page covers the rest of the fine print.
